Mabul & Kapalai

Sipadan

This is one of the big fish capitals of the world, and every dive site is loaded with flashy schools of anthias, jacks, triggerfish, and barracuda. All along the reef, angelfish, anemone fish, nudibranchs, lionfish, eels, octopus, and many more species can be found lurking between coral heads. The shallow reefs are also great areas to find lounging whitetip reef sharks and resting crocodile fish. On every dive at Sipadan expect to encounter turtles munching on sponges and algae, sleeping on ledges, or simply moseying around.Originally popularized by famed sea-explorer Jacques Cousteau, Sipadan is undoubtedly one of the premiere dive destinations in the world.

Within 10 minutes of Resort, you will find wall dives, gently sloping coral reefs, artificial reefs, world-famous muck diving sites as well as a wreck! Mabul has long been known as a macro diver's paradise and is indeed one of the richest single destinations for exotic small marine life anywhere in the world.

  • Kapalai
Blue ring octopus, mimic octopus, ghost pipe fish, stone fish are just some of the common sights. Every day at dusk, in the coral rubble adjacent to the Kapalai jetty, mandarin fish perform their nightly mating ritual. Leaf scorpion fish and frog fish of various colors inhabit the sloping reefs on all sides of the islands. You can find giant stingrays, as well as large schools of jack fish and barracuda, along with solitary giant groupers reaching over two meters in length. You will find many unusual marine invertebrates including orangutan crabs, spider crabs, hyper-colored nudibranchs, and many different species of shrimps.

The Stay

The Resort is an eco-friendly, located on Mabul Island, just a hop and a skip away from world-famous Sipadan National Park...

Mabul is a small island on Sabah’s east coast. You can stroll around the whole island in under an hour. There are limited facilities here - in the village you will find some small stalls selling things as snacks and cigarettes, but there are no supermarkets on the island. These small shops are all cash only, please note there are no ATM’s or money exchange facilities on the island so it is best to bring some pocket money from Semporna.

There is a small retail shop in the resort for souvenirs, toiletries and dive accessories, but if you are looking for something specific, it is better to buy on the mainland before reaching the island.
